Forging and pressing
Forging is the forming process of mechanical parts, workpieces or blanks by applying pressure to the blank to produce plastic deformation, change size, shape and improve performance. It is the general name for forging and stamping.
Forging includes rolling, extrusion, drawing, free forging, model forging, stamping and other processing methods.
The forging process is based on the plastic deformation of metal. All kinds of steel and most non iron metals and their alloys have different degrees of plasticity, so they can be forging and pressing in cold or hot state, and brittle materials such as gray cast iron, cast copper alloy, cast aluminum alloy and so on can not be forged.
The main characteristics of metal forging and pressing are:
Advantage:
(1) it can improve the internal structure of the metal and improve the mechanical properties of the metal.
(2) save metal material. Compared with the forming of direct cutting steel, it can save the consumption of metal materials and save processing time.
(3) the efficiency of production is high. Such as gear rolling, roller rolling and other manufacturing methods are higher than mechanical processing productivity several times or even more than a few times.
Shortcomings:
(1) it is not possible to obtain parts with complex shapes. The size accuracy, shape accuracy and surface quality of the parts are not high enough.
(2) the processing equipment is relatively expensive, and the cost of the parts is higher than that of the castings.
